Optimizing Trial Conversions
Client Confidential / Industry Database Technology
Project Category SaaS Onboarding Optimization
GOAL
In-memory database provider experiences high drop-off rates during onboarding and needs to improve trial-to-paid conversion by creating a clearer, more streamlined user experience.
OBJECTIVE
Redesign the onboarding flow to reduce friction at critical points (cloud solution selection, payment), provide clear value demonstration, and create dual paths for different user intents (self-serve vs. demo requests).
STEPS
Analyzed current flow drop-off points (45% at cloud selection, 90% at payment), conducted competitor analysis of Redis, Google Memorystore, and Amazon ElastiCache, performed user interviews identifying key pain points, and designed simplified flow with "Create Database" and "Book Demo" options.
OUTCOMES
Replaced confusing popup with dedicated screen, simplified registration removing segmentation questions, added clear value propositions for each step, implemented GitHub sign-up option, and created clear next actions post-payment. Expected to reduce drop-off by 40-50% and improve trial activation rates significantly.
